Johnstone Walks website launch!

Home > News and Events > News - release archive > 2006 > May

Carol Laula the internationally renowned Paisley singer is teaming up with Live Life Network to launch an innovative new walking website in Johnstone Castle Learning Centre.

The website, which is the first of its kind in Scotland, will detail walks around Johnstone. It allows users to choose a pre-set walk at an effort level of their choice, print off a route map with instructions and points of interest and walk the route in their own time. It also includes advice on independent walking, health benefits and information on walking in Johnstone.

The Live Life Johnstone Walk website is a key step by the Live Life Network as it launches a major new health initiative for Johnstone, designed to encourage people to lead a more active lifestyle.
Now Carol Laula has teamed up with Live Life Network to launch the website and said:

“I believe it is a worthwhile project which encourages people to get out and about and see what Johnstone has to offer at the same time as getting valuable exercise”.

Live Life Network has developed this service to encourage people in Johnstone to take a more active role in their health because it believes that too many people die prematurely due to taking too little exercise and becoming overweight. Some people are also reluctant to discuss health problems and only attempt to do something about them when they have become more serious and are harder to treat.

Jonathan Cavana, Physical Activity Co-ordinator with the Live Life Network, said: “People are often reluctant to do exercise in a formal setting so we’ve decided to develop a service that they can take advantage of at any time, with friends or on their own. It’s in the town, it’s free, it’s quick and it’s completely confidential.

“We hope everyone in Johnstone will use it and start to take the first steps towards increasing physical activity levels and improving their health.”

The scheme is also being backed by a number of health professionals and fitness experts who say the walks are the ideal way to get people involved in their own health.

The Johnstone Walks website initiative is one of many being undertaken by Live Life Network across Renfrewshire. The Johnstone Walks website and other services provided by Live Life Network including physical activity programmes, stress management, counselling and information can be accessed through the Live Life Network website or by calling Jonathan Cavana on 0141 887 8451.
