Work is well underway for the new £7.5m Woodlands Campus, and the soil will be cut this week to officially launch the new project. The new school will open to pupils in August 2007, and will replace the existing one on the same site. It will also accommodate Linwood Community Childcare which is presently based in Linwood High School.
The age range of the children in the ChildCare unit will be extended from 0 to 5 compared to the current 3 to 5. The school roll will be around 250 and the nursery roll is to be negotiated in consultation with the Care Commission.
After the new school is built the existing building will be demolished and a new pitch laid. This phase of the work is to to be completed by December 2007.
Councillor Roy Glen, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Lifelong Learning and Work Policy Board, said: “We’re all excited about the new school and I’m sure it will be a wonderful resource for the community.”
John Rooney, Director of Renfrewshire Council’s Education and Leisure Services, said: “The ceremony marks the start of a new chapter for Woodlands Primary, and we’ll continue to strive to achieve the highest academic and pastoral results for our pupils.”
The soil cutting will also be attended by staff from RSP (Renfrewshire Schools Partnership), the consortium which won the contract; staff from Carillion Building, the construction company and staff from Amey Business Services, who will manage the school on behalf of the council.
Work started on the project in March 2006.
