Renfrewshire Council’s website has been chosen as the top council website in Scotland in a prestigious awards scheme.
Renfrewshire was named as top Scottish website in the 2007 SPIN – Socitm awards organised by the Society of Public Information Networks and the Society of Information Technology Management.
The judges assessed local authority websites in Scotland for the ‘most appealing user experience.’ Renfrewshire topped a shortlist which featured Fife, Clackmannanshire, East Ayrshire and South Ayrshire councils.
In March 2007, Socitm’s annual assessment of council websites listed this site in a group of only seven Scottish council sites that are 'transactional' , that is to say, websites that offer customers a wide range of opportunities to do business online with the council.
The Renfrewshire site was also judged to be 'very easy to use' and 'packed with useful information and services'.
Nigel Goldsmith, portal coordinator with Renfrewshire Council said, "To be independently assessed as a top council website in Scotland is very encouraging. Our site is distinctive as it is being developed not just as a council website but also as a community resource. This has allowed us to broaden the range of information and services available and to make the site more wide ranging and relevant for the people of Renfrewshire".
