The Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council have commissioned an independent Inquiry into the circumstances in which abuse occurred at the former Kerelaw residential school and secure unit in Ayrshire, which was shut down in 2006.


The school itself closed at the end of 2004, followed just over a year later by the secure accommodation. The closures came as a result of internal investigations of allegations of abuse made by former staff and residents in early 2004. Police investigations resulted in two convictions in 2006.
