Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education has given top marks to the staff and pupils of St John Bosco Primary in Erskine. The school was praised by HMIe for a number of key strengths including the:
- leadership of the head teacher and management team
- variety of learning experiences and the 'focus on promoting pupils' wider achievements'
- high quality of pastoral care and 'excellent ethos'
- 'confident, courteous and hard-working' pupils who 'had a strong sense of responsibility and pride' in the school.
The HMIE report followed an inspection in October 2006 as part of a national sample of primary education.
The inspectors also found that staff, pupils and parents had a 'strong sense of identity and pride in their school'. And staff had 'high expectations for pupils' attendance, behaviour and achievements.'
Josephine Mackay, head teacher of St John Bosco, said: "I am delighted that the many strengths of St John Bosco Primary have been recognised in this very positive report. The excellent partnerships we have with parents, the Church and the wider community have been highlighted together with our excellent relationships within the school. This is a tribute to the talent and hard work of all our staff, pupils, parents and all who support us. I'd like to thank and congratulate everyone involved".
John Rooney, Renfrewshire Council's Director of Education and Leisure Services, said: "I am very pleased that HMIe has recognised the splendid work of the school. Staff, pupils and all those associated with the school should be proud of their achievements and should look to the future with much confidence".
St John Bosco Primary has 145 pupils and serves west Erskine and the village of Bishopton.
