Doing Well, an NHS service for people with depression, has teamed up with Renfrewshire Council to provide better information for people affected by depression. Depression is a condition that affects one in four Scots yet many people don’t know how to manage the condition themselves, or where to find the right support.
Renfrewshire’s libraries have now been stocked with self-help books about depression. The books have been chosen by Doing Well staff to help people understand depression and make a full recovery. They are not filled with jargon and are accessible to everyone. The books can be borrowed directly from the following facilities or requested from any Renfrewshire library :
- Paisley Central
- Johnstone
- Bargarran community library
- Glenburn community library
Jill McKee, libraries support & resources manager, said:“We are delighted to work with ‘Doing Well’ to provide these books to the public. “Anyone can become a member of Renfrewshire libraries and book lending is free. Simply go along to your local library to find out more.”
The project manager of Doing Well, Stephen McGinness, said:“We think that these books will be useful for everyone, whether you are trying to recover from depression yourself, or supporting a friend or family member. Depression should be everyone’s business, and it’s good to be working together with the Council to promote better health for people in Renfrewshire.”
Doing Well is a part of the NHS and funded by the centre for change & innovations in the Scottish Executive (CCI).
