‘Day of celebration’ planned for reopening of Renfrew Town Hall

Home > Services > Council and government > Council information, performance and statistics > News - release archive

Plans have been unveiled for a 'day of celebration' to mark the official reopening of Renfrew Town Hall following a £5.2million modernisation programme.

A parade, fireworks display and musical performances will mark the reopening of the revamped town hall and new Renfrew Community Museum.

The opening event will take place from 2.30 -4.30pm on Saturday January 28. The action starts with a parade involving local schools and musicians from
Robertson Park to the High Street. Then there will be a performance from the Renfrew Burgh Band at 2.45pm.

At 3pm the Clyde 1 Roadshow takes over along with live music performances. The official opening ceremony takes place approaching 4.30pm before the
day is rounded off by a spectacular fireworks display.

"Renfrew Town hall has always been at the heart of the community so it's only right that the community is fully involved in the celebrations to mark its
reopening," said Councillor Bill Perrie, Convener of Renfrew and Gallowhill Local Area Committee.

"We've had a tremendous amount of support from many people and organisations to get to this stage. The opening event is a chance to say 'thank you' for
all that support and involvement.

"We also want to showcase the restored architecture and interior of the town hall and the fascinating exhibits at the new Renfrew Community Museum.
Members of the public will have the chance to come inside and see the facilities."

Contingency plans have put in place in case the winter weather strikes on the day of the event. As much of the programme as possible would be staged
inside the town hall on a first come, first served basis.

The £5.2million modernisation of Renfrew Town Hall has been led by Renfrewshire Council with support from Renfrew Common Good Fund, Historic
Scotland and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
