Renfrewshire residents to be offered free home insulation

Home > Services > Council and government > Council information, performance and statistics > News - release archive

Householders in Renfrewshire are being offered free insulation for their homes to help reduce fuel bills and their carbon footprint.

Renfrewshire Council has successfully secured funding from the Scottish Government to offer home insulation measures at no cost to owners through the Universal Home Insulation Scheme.

This is part of the Council’s ongoing commitment towards the promotion of energy conservation and efficiency.

Properly insulated homes can reduce energy bills, making them warmer and helping to lower each home's carbon footprint.

For homes that are suitable, cavity wall and loft insulation will be installed free of charge regardless of household income. As the available funds are limited, applications for insulation surveys will be allocated on a ‘first-come-first-served’ basis.

This offer can only be accessed through the Energy Saving Scotland advice centre and appointed project installer.

Councillor Kenny MacLaren, convener of Renfrewshire Council's Housing and Community Safety Policy Board, said: "As gas and electricity prices continue to increase, more and more people are looking for ways to reduce their bills. Typically, a third of heat in homes can be lost through un-insulated walls making it more expensive to keep homes warm. This fund offers local people the opportunity to get their insulation done for free."

Operations Manager, for the Energy Saving Scotland advice centre Strathclyde & Central, Alex Warren said: "We are delighted to be working closely with Renfrewshire Council to tackle rising energy bills in the region. We are urging householders to act now before the winter bills impact. This is a time limited offer and is a good opportunity for householders to improve their insulation all at no cost.   Call us now on 0800 512 012 and speak to one of our advisors to get free, impartial advice on how they can save energy and keep their bills as low as possible."

To be considered for insulation measures, call the local Energy Saving Scotland advice centre on freephone 0800 512 012 (quoting: Renfrewshire UHIS 2011), as soon as possible to go through a free home energy check to see what support is available.

Callers will then be referred to a Carillion surveyor who will visit each property and identify, with the householder's agreement, where improvements could be made to insulation.

In addition to this, as part of the project, Renfrewshire Council is also offering tailored energy advice and one-to-one support where needed, to all local residents. A home assessor can visit residents to chat about other ways to save money and make homes more energy efficient. They can advise on using home energy more efficiently, help to obtain the best deals on gas and electricity, help understand and simplify fuel bills, tariffs and meter readings as well as acting on their behalf with utility suppliers, to deal with fuel arrears and payment plans.

To take advantage of this limited offer or find out more please call 0800 512 012.
