Senior lecturer Val Lang said: "We are thrilled for Jenna and especially delighted since this will be the third year running that we have had a Reid Kerr student take gold at this stage of the UK Skills competition. Jenna was awarded a gold medal in 2007 and fellow student Jane Pearson took gold in the 2006 competition. Our students are consistently proving they are among the best in the UK and their track record will set them in good stead for the world skills competition, which takes place in Calgary next year."
Jenna secured her place at the UK Skills finals following her success and gold medal place at the regional heats in Scotland last month. She was awarded a cash prize and has been selected for the British team, which will see her continue with competitions and skills events until the end of this year. John Baird, head of hospitality and hairdressing at Reid Kerr, added: "Jenna should be very proud of her achievements as are we. She has worked exceptionally hard and deserves to be competing with the best trainee hairdressers from around the country. The skills competitions are fiercely competitive and Jenna has proved that she can compete and succeed at all levels."
Fellow hairdressing student Lianne Wilson, 18 from Erskine was also recognised at the UK Finals and was awarded a bronze medal at Intermediate level. A former Trinity High pupil, Lianne originally attended Reid Kerr as part of the Renfrewshire schools vocational programme and has been snipping her way to hairdressing success ever since.
