Ever wanted to work in social care? Are you looking for a challenging and satisfying career? Why not study for a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in social care at Reid Kerr College. Social care student Suzanne Baines from Erskine was keen to make a difference and improve her education and recently completed the HNC at Reid Kerr College. The 37 year old was a full-time mum before coming to the college and feels that after only 1 year, it has opened many doors to a new future.
Suzanne said, "I chose Reid Kerr College because of its reputation, location and facilities. I studied full time and found the course varied, informative, exciting, challenging and inspiring. My experience at college was further enhanced by the lovely, helpful and supportive staff and I made great friends. Going to college has highlighted a passion for learning and the positive impact education has on a person's life. I have now enrolled in University to study social work."
Like Suzanne, you can study the HNC 1 year full-time, alternatively if you are already employed within the sector you can study this course part-time in the evening or day release. Some part-time students may be eligible for an ILA account, providing funding towards this course. The HNC incorporates 360 hours of supervised practice in a care role. Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
Steve Roberts, senior lecturer at Reid Kerr added, "If you are interested but unsure of your ability to take this course, please apply, as every year we have a number of students who achieve the HNC, who at this stage felt exactly the same as you. There are a great variety of job opportunities to be found once you are qualified with the HNC as well as progression to a degree at university. The Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC) has included the HNC in social care as a suitable qualification for registering as a worker in a range of care settings."
