A major milestone in the £4m regeneration of Renfrew is set to be reached as two-way traffic returns to the town centre.
Traffic restrictions are expected to be lifted early on the morning of Sunday 13 July. The restrictions, including a one-way system, have been in place to allow construction work to be carried out safely during the programme of road and environmental improvements.
McKean, the lead contractor appointed by Renfrewshire Council, completed road surfacing work at the end of June. Final preparations are underway to enable the lifting of traffic restrictions and the introduction of permanent two-way traffic flows.
Councillor Marie McGurk, convenor of Renfrewshire Council's environment and infrastructure board, said: "The lifting of traffic restrictions represents exciting progress of the scheme as works enter the final stages. It may take a short period to become familiar with the new road system and I would encourage drivers to study the council's information bulletin and ask for their patience during this period".
Councillor Derek Mackay, leader of Renfrewshire Council, said: "I'm delighted to have reached this significant milestone in the project, particularly for town centre residents and businesses who have been so patient as works have progressed. The lifting of traffic restrictions represents the beginning of a new and vibrant Renfrew town centre, a town that is equipped for the future."
Following the lifting of traffic restrictions, small-scale works will continue at the edges of the town centre until completion of the regeneration programme in late summer.
Councillor Mackay added: "I would like to assure the Renfrew public that the council are working hard to ensure that the remaining works within the town centre are completed as quickly as possible".
Full details of the two-way traffic flows and the latest on the overall regeneration of Renfrew town centre are available in Renfrewshire Council's latest information bulletin on Renfrew's £4million revamp.
The bulletin is being distributed to residents and businesses within the town centre in the next few days. Copies will be available from Renfrew Town Hall and Renfrew library. You can also download the bulletin here:
