Gallowhill Primary has been praised in a report by her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education following their visit in March.
The inspectors commended a number of key strengths in the school as well as identifying an innovative approach using the weather to promote positive behaviour as an example of good practice to be shared with other schools.
The report praises the school for adopting the approach for the last 3 years which uses the weather as a context, with positive behaviour being represented by sunshine. Pupils who stay in the sunshine are awarded certificates or badges each week and if they keep up their behaviour for a month are rewarded at a Sunshine Assembly.
Parents have also been invited to workshops to learn about this approach and how it could benefit their children.
The report notes that this has helped establish "a positive, happy and purposeful learning environment".
The school also achieved a high standard in all categories covered in the report. Inspectors marked the school very good in all but two categories, which were marked as good.
Key strengths identified in the report were:
- Improvement in pupils’ attainment in reading and mathematics
- Pupils’ positive attitudes and active involvement in their own learning
- Skilful and well-paced teaching
- The effective use of self-evaluation to secure continuing improvements to learning and teaching and pupils achievements
- Teamwork and the contribution of all staff to driving forward school improvements
- Leadership of the head teacher
John Rooney, Renfrewshire Council's director of education, said: "I am pleased that this report both recognised and endorses the significant efforts of the staff at Gallowhill Primary School in providing the highest quality of education. I am sure that teachers and pupils will take pride in their achievements and can look forward to the future with much confidence while continuing to pursue further improvement."
