Multi-million pound upgrade works announced for M8

Home > Services > Council and government > Council information, performance and statistics > News - release archive

The second phase of refurbishment works for the White Cart Viaduct near Glasgow Airport will get underway on the Monday 29 January, involving substantial works at carriageway level.

This section of motorway not only provides connections to the airport, but links Inverclyde and Renfrewshire, including the Erskine Bridge, with Glasgow, Edinburgh and other destinations to the east.

Traffic management will allow works to be delivered throughout the 15-week programme. Two lanes will remain open each way for the majority of the scheme and a contra-flow will be in place between junctions 27 and 29.

For driver and workforce safety, a reduced speed limit of 40mph and average speed safety cameras will remain in place throughout the work. Drivers are asked to be patient, drive with care and observe the speed limit which will be enforced.

Slip road closures will be in place, with diversions at junction 27 west-bound (Greenock bound) on-slip, junction 28 east-bound (Glasgow/Edinburgh) on-slip and junction 29 east-bound (Glasgow/Edinburgh) on-slip.
