HNC Radio student Jim Devine
Students from Reid Kerr College's HNC Radio course have been working closely with many of the local radio stations in the area and were making waves recently when they were asked to present on the Barrhead-based radio station Pulse FM.

Pulse FM is a community-based station which recently won a five year license to operate a full-time community radio station in Barrhead. John Collins, senior lecturer in radio at Reid Kerr, said: "The college has been lucky enough to form a great partnership with this innovative new station, and these kind of close links with the main radio stations in the area give students a unique opportunity to meet and learn from the experts, while placements provide real insights into Scottish broadcasting."

Raymond Weir, chairperson of Pulse FM, commented: "This is a genuinely exciting development for both parties. It not only gives students an unparalleled opportunity to experience life at a full-time community station, but it gives Pulse FM the chance to spot, develop and nurture the very best up-and–coming broadcasting talent."

HNC Radio student Jim Devine, from Paisley, added: "The course has been enjoyable, entertaining and has broadened my knowledge of the creative industries across the UK."

"The HNC gives you a chance to be creative and with the recording and broadcasting equipment available, you learn more of how to combine these elements and put your own ideas into making, producing and presenting your very own radio show."

The Higher National Certificate (HNC) Radio at Reid Kerr is a one-year, full-time course, delivered by a team with considerable broadcast experience as presenters, producers and sound engineers in the commercial sector and the BBC. The team boasts a number of awards both for teaching and programme-making, and emphasise industry strength practice in all of their classes and workshops. Students use a variety of broadcast production equipment to produce content, ranging from analogue and digital portable recorders, and produce daily programmes for the campus online radio station.
