“Across Scotland, pupils and teachers are reaping the rewards of new or refurbished schools – like St Andrew's Academy. A modern teaching environment, fit for the 21st century, ensures all our young people get the best possible chance to realise their full potential," said Peter Peacock.
“The new St. Andrew’s Academy is just part of the Scottish Executive's commitment to transform school buildings, as we work towards our target of rebuilding or refurbishing 300 schools by 2009.”
Renfrewshire Council Leader Jim Harkins said: "The new St Andrew's Academy provides an opportunity to the whole school community to raise achievement not just in education but also personal and social development. St Andrew's has long had close links with the local community and this exciting new phase in its history can only strengthen that connection."
Tony Quinn, Head Teacher of St Andrew's Academy, said: "Our whole school community is delighted to have moved into a bright, colourful and modern building, purpose built for the needs of staff. The pupils are already displaying an immense pride in their new school. I am confident that this will enhance even further the reputation of the school in our community."
Renfrewshire Schools Partnership, the consortium which is constructing and managing Renfrewshire's PPP schools, commented that it was "delighted with the high design quality of the school and, in particular, the large open 'social area' which not only will be used for dining and concerts but also makes movement around the school easier. All parties, and in particular Renfrewshire Council and the teaching staff, have made major contributions to this excellent project that will have a positive effect on the whole community for years to come."
