Scotland’s largest business park is backing the campaign to make Renfrewshire a Fairtrade zone.
MEPC Hillington Park encompasses parts of Renfrewshire and Glasgow and is the location for more than 350 businesses.
MEPC are represented on the Renfrewshire Fairtrade Steering Group which was set up in November 2007 to achieve Fairtrade status for the whole of Renfrewshire, by Hillington Park’s customer manager Alison Clark.
Renfrewshire Council leader Derek Mackay, chair of the steering group, said: “One of the goals for achieving Fairtrade status for Renfrewshire is that Fairtrade products are more readily available in local shops and are used by local businesses. Having such a big organisation like MEPC on board is a real boost to Renfrewshire’s campaign to get a better deal for third world traders.”
Alison Clark added: “These days, the emphasis is on sustainability, and that is a global concept. Renfrewshire’s Fairtrade initiatives dovetail very well with MEPC’s sustainability objectives, so we are pleased to be a partner in this project.”
The steering group also includes members from Paisley Fairtrade Partnership, Bishopton Fairtrade Steering Group, Reid Kerr College, Rainbow Turtle, the University of West of Scotland, and Renfrewshire Council.
