Returning to education to update her qualifications has been a great success for former Childcare student Donna Caldwell from Paisley. Keen to become a nursery nurse full-time Donna returned to education and enrolled at Reid Kerr College in 1998 and studied for an NC and HNC in Childcare. Now eight years on Donna, 39 has secured her first promotion to Pre 5 Senior Nursery Officer following the completion of a Professional Development Award (PDA) Early Education and Childcare at Reid Kerr.
Donna said, “I completed my initial qualifications with Reid Kerr by studying full-time and when I secured employment I was able to continue with my professional development and enrolled for the PDA on a part-time basis. Studying part-time was very convenient, allowing me to work while working towards further qualifications.”
“The PDA course gave me the confidence and knowledge to apply for my promoted post, without which I believe, I wouldn’t have been successful. I now intend to gain practical experience in my new role and will consider further study in a few years.”
Senior Lecturer at Reid Kerr College, Davina Coupar added, “Like Donna, the PDA is designed for candidates who hold qualifications in Childcare with post qualified work experience. It provides a knowledge and understanding of effective leadership within work teams, maintaining quality provision, and investigating childcare in other countries. This course can also provide a progression route to a degree at university.”
