A right royal occasion

Princess Anne, Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, recently presented two Reid Kerr engineering students with Hammermen Engineering Awards at the Trades Hall in Glasgow.

Charlene Casey, 19, from Paisley won a first prize, Charlene is currently studying for an HNC in Computer Aided Design. Meanwhile Chetan Sharma, 19, an international Reid Kerr student from Chandigarth in India who is studying for an HNC in Engineering Electronics was awarded a second prize.


Charlene has since gone on to win another Hammermen award. She was put on a short leet for the Prince Philip Prize and after being interviewed by a panel of judges was awarded the runner up prize.


The Incorporation of Hammermen annually presents engineering awards to students who can demonstrate their commitment to a career in engineering. The award winners are required to apply the prize money won to the development of their careers.

Head of Engineering at Reid Kerr College, Dave McCulloch said, “Congratulations must go to both students, we are all very proud of Charlene and Chetan in winning these prestigious awards. It was a great occasion for them to be presented by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, who is an honorary member of the Incorporation of Hammermen of Glasgow, and something they will remember for a very long time.”
