What is the Public Services Panel?
We set up our Public Services Panel in 1998. It is used to find out the views of Renfrewshire residents on a wide range of issues. The panel is currently made up of over 2000 people. Panel members are aged 17 plus and are selected at random from the electoral register to make sure that the panel is broadly representative of the population of Renfrewshire. We replace a third of panel members each year to refresh the membership and make sure that panel members continue to be representative of the population.
How does the Public Services Panel work?
We send Panel members four postal questionnaires per year to collect their views on a wide variety of issues such as health, community safety, the environment, roads and transport, customer service and online public services.
We work closely on the Panel with our community planning partners such as the Paisley Partnership Regeneration Company, Strathclyde Police and the Renfrewshire Community Health Partnership.
Why do we have a Public Services Panel?
Our Public Services Panel is one of the main elements of our consultation process. Consultation is important because listening and responding to the public is fundamental to the work of the council. Our Panel helps us to:
- plan services to meet our customers' needs and expectations
- find out what is important to our customers
- monitor the effectiveness of our services
- develop good relationships with our customers
- improve our services
We use the feedback we obtain from members of the Panel to produce a newsletter which provides a summary of the results from the questionnaires and gives information on what we are doing to tackle the issues that Panel members have expressed concern with. Newsletters are sent to Panel members with their next questionnaire. Survey findings are sent to senior managers from across the council and the community planning partners. This information is used to improve, and monitor the effectiveness of, our services.
