Bob Darracott - Director of Planning and Transport
The links between the department's core services support a coordinated approach being taken to achieve Council priority objectives in areas such as:
- infrastructure improvements
- economic and business development
- area regeneration
- planning and building standards advice
Vacancy - Head of Economic Development and Support Services
The head of economic development manages an economic development team responsible for a range of services:
- supporting and attracting new investment
- business development
- town centre management
- tourism
- social economy initiatives
- helping the unemployed back into work
- securing funding from Europe
Economic development work in partnership with other organisations, particularly Scottish Enterprise Renfrewshire (with whom it is partly co-located) and the Chamber of Commerce. They also take a lead role in the Paisley Vision initiative.
The support services function provides financial, service planning, administration and customer service support to the wider planning and transport department.

Crawford Russell - Head of Planning
- ensuring sustainable development through the preparation of development plans
- managing development proposals
- carrying out area regeneration schemes
- protecting our built heritage and natural environment
His role includes the preparation of the Renfrewshire Local Plan and input to the Glasgow and Clyde Valley Joint Structure Plan. These development plans guide future development and investment across Renfrewshire.
The Head of Planning also evaluates and decides on applications for planning permission and building warrant on behalf of the council. Other duties include the preparation of masterplans and area regeneration schemes.
He is also responsible for the protection of our listed buildings, conservation areas, important areas of the natural environment and the quality of Renfrewshire’s heritage. His role also includes widening biodiversity and improving access to the countryside.

Iain Hamilton - Head of Roads
It also provides links to wider markets by way of Glasgow airport and the Scottish motorway network.
The Head of Roads' key responsibilities include:
- preparing and implementing strategies for the integrated development of roads and public transport
- developing and maintaining roads, bridges, structures, footpaths, street lighting and associated infrastructure
- road safety and developing programmes to promote 'green' transport, including walking and cycling
- maintaining rivers and watercourses
- flood prevention, winter maintenance and emergencies
- monitoring road and bridge maintenance
