Reid Kerr college recently hosted an information session for the pupils and parents of young people attending the college on the Skills for Work programmes. The event gave parents the opportunity to observe their children’s work and meet with all of the lecturing staff and external organisations involved. Renfrewshire Council’s Vocational Educational Programme was launched in 2004 and provides a wide range of courses for 3rd and 4th year pupils from Renfrewshire schools to study for vocational qualifications together with their standard grades.
Schools liaison officer at Reid Kerr, Cherry Briggs said, “this was the third successful information event that we have delivered which gives the parents a chance to see what their children are studying at the college. It is also an opportunity for the students to showcase their talents and demonstrate the skills learned at the college.”
Bill Fleming, quality improvement officer with Renfrewshire Council added, “The council is delighted to acknowledge the highly effective partnerships between young people, their parents, schools and Reid Kerr College, established through the vocational education programme. The skills that young people achieve either through their specific vocational training or through their employability skills will be of benefit to their future careers, and also to the economic development of Scotland and its future skills needs.”
Parents were invited to visit the various departments within the college and also met with Reid Kerr staff as well as representatives from local organisations, training boards and careers advisors.
