Local resident Jeny McPherson, recently helped Councillor Tommy Williams, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Community and Family Care Policy Board, take up the controls of a JCB on the site where a new care home for older people is to be built, marking a fresh new start for Foxbar.
The ‘breaking ground’ ceremony was extra special to Jeny, originally from the Foxbar area, as she is one of the residents set to move to the new state of the art care home later this year.
The care home marks a fresh start for the area as it being built on the ground where the demolished high rise flats - Montrose, Heriot and Marmion Courts - originally stood. The demolition of these flats in December 2004 was part of Renfrewshire Council’s programme to regenerate the community of Foxbar, delivering increased housing options and new facilities. This new care home for older people will be one of the key projects for the regeneration of this area.
Once complete, the care home will cater for 60 live-in elderly residents and 40 additional older people in an adjoining day centre. The building, which will be built over 2/3 levels, has been designed with good views across the dam and Gleniffer Braes and will have landscaped, safe gardens for the residents to enjoy.
The Foxbar home marks the first of three new care homes to be built in Renfrewshire under the Council’s plan to make sure that all care homes and day centres for older people have excellent facilities in which to deliver high quality care. Renfrewshire Council is committing around £15 million over the next two years to new build facilities for our older people.

Councillor Tommy Williams, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Community and Family Care Policy Board, said, "This is an exciting time for the people of Foxbar. The new care home will play a major role in the regeneration of the local area whilst providing high quality state of the art facilities for our older people. I am confident that Jeny and the other new residents will fit in well with their surrounding neighbours and enjoy being part of this close-knit community."
He continued: “Renfrewhwshire Council is committed to caring for the elderly in Renfrewshire, and this new care home marks the first major step in our £15m million programme to make sure that we are leading the way ahead in the care and facilities we offer.”
