Plans to develop girls' football in Renfrewshire have been given a boost with new seven-a-side sessions starting in Renfrew.
The sessions begin on Saturday 28 October from 10 to 11.30am at Renfrew High KGV astroturf pitch.
Girls aged from 10 to 17 can come along as individuals or as part of a team with their friends.
Peter Gillies, Renfrewshire Council’s SFA football development officer, said: “There’s always a lot of interest in girls getting involved in football in Renfrewshire. These sessions are aimed at offering girls the chance to participate at different levels whether it’s just enjoying the game or going on to take part in more formal teams.
“I’m working in partnership with Renfrew High, and Danny Stevenson the school’s principal PE teacher, to establish girls' football in the area. These Saturday sessions are an ideal way for girls to learn more about the sport, develop their skills and go on to play in teams.”
Girls coming along to the 7-a-side sessions are asked to bring appropriate clothing and outdoor footwear with no metal studs.
Participants will be placed in teams with girls of similar ages competing against each other.
The Saturday sessions at Renfrew will continue up until Christmas and resume in January.
