Primary 7 pupils from East Fulton Primary in Linwood were set a rooftop challenge recently when staff and students from Reid Kerr College's construction department visited their school. The visit from the college was part of the school's 'Enterprise Week' which gave the pupils an opportunity to meet a number of other organisations.
Tommy Campbell, senior lecturer in slating and tiling, along with some of the college's roofing students, delivered a hands on roofing session to the P7 pupils, giving them a chance to work on a model roof, wearing their construction clothing and working with roofing materials. MPS Construction and Training from Johnstone sponsored the materials for the event.
Jackie McCabe, senior clerical officer at East Fulton Primary said, "The pupils had a great time trying out their roofing skills and everything was explained very well. We were also delighted to have had Cherry Briggs, schools liaison officer with the college, there with us that day, who came along to chat to the P7's and give the children an insight into life at Reid Kerr College."
The pupils made a return visit to the college this month to find out more about the construction department at Reid Kerr College. Jackie continued, "We are delighted to have formed this relationship with Reid Kerr and we look forward to keeping this link in the future."
