Renfrewshire’s depute provost, Jean Goldie, gave the local junior Abercorn football team her support as she waved them off on their way to the North Regional football tournament in Newcastle.

The boys of Abercorn FC impressed teams down south during a competition in Blackpool earlier this year, and were invited to play in the under 13s category of the prestigious tournament. The team will take part in the two day tournament on 9/10 July and will start off by playing the well known hosts, Leam Rangers.

Depute provost Goldie caught up with the boys and their manager/coach John Bremner at St James' playing fields on Wednesday 5 July, as they got in some last minute training before the tournament. Wishing the boys well, she said:"It's great to see the young people get excited and involved in sport. I am delighted that the team are doing well and wish them good luck as they represent the area at the regional tournament in Newcastle".
