Candidates named for Elderslie by-election

Five candidates are bidding to represent the Elderslie ward of Renfrewshire Council in the by-election which is taking place following the death of sitting councillor Jean Goldie.
The candidates in the 7 December, 2006 by-election are:
- Henry Bradley, Scottish Liberal Democrats
- John Caldwell, Scottish Labour Party
- Alistair Campbell, Scottish and Conservative and Unionist party
- Gerard McCartney, Scottish Socialist Party
- Tracie McGee, Scottish National Party (SNP)
Polling will take place from 8am to 9pm at Wallace Primary School, Greenhill Crescent, Elderslie.
The school will serve as the only polling location for the electorate of 3395 voters in the Elderslie ward.
Once voting has ended, the ballot boxes will be taken to Paisley Town Hall for counting. The result will be declared later that night by the Returning Officer, David Martin, chief executive of Renfrewshire Council.
There's still time to apply for a postal vote. Contact the Electoral Registration Officer, Renfrewshire Valuation Joint Board, The Robertson Centre, 16 Glasgow Road, Paisley PA1 3QF, or telephone 0141 842 5922 for an application form. To receive a postal vote for this election, completed applications must be returned to the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on 29 November, 2006.
