Adult learners week celebrations
Local residents from around Paisley and Renfrew were celebrating recently at Reid Kerr College's Community Development annual Adult Learners Week, with two community based events held in the Tannahill Centre in Ferguslie and Kirklandneuk Community Centre in Renfrew.

The events showcased the work of current and former outreach student's achievements and provided visitors to the events with information and advice through range of workshops and information stands.

Letitia Fraser, Reid Kerr College learning centre manager, said: "A number of local agencies and organisations came along to support the event, making it the most successful Adult Learners Week so far. We were delighted to have groups such as Buddies for Learning who offer advice on literacy and support individuals and groups within the area, Have a Heart Paisley who provided mini health checks, Renfrewshire Libraries and Employment Plus (PPRC) who gave out information on accessing childcare funds and support on training and employment opportunities in the local area."

Paisley Partnership Regeneration Company, in partnership with Reid Kerr College, held an award ceremony at the Ferguslie event to recognise the work of over 50 students in participating in and completing Community Voices training and Reid Kerr College outreach courses such as digital photography (students from this course provided a display of work at both of the events).

Visitors to the Tannahill Centre and Kirklandneuk Community Centre were invited to take part in workshops on topics such as Arts and Crafts, Beauty Therapy and PC Maintenance. Photography students from Reid Kerr were on hand to provide baby portraits for the local residents.

Letitia continued: "We are very grateful to everyone who helped support this year's event, including Kirklandneuk Voluntary Management Committee and the PPRC. We are looking forward to welcoming many new faces into our learning centres at the start of the new session in September 2008."
