MSP Wendy Alexander recently commissioned Reid Kerr HND Graphic Design students with a commercial design project. The College students were given a tight brief to create design solutions for a marketing point of sale project for the MSP.

Laura Fleming, Paula Barton and MSP Wendy Alexander
Wendy selected the winning designs from the students' submissions, picking two that fulfilled the brief she had set. Wendy said, “The standard of entry was very high. The hard work that went into this project is a credit to all the students and staff at Reid Kerr. Choosing the winner was not an easy task.”

The winner was Laura Fleming, from Wishaw with Paula Barton, from Baillieston being awarded the runner-up. Both of these students are day release part-time students who infill into classes with full-time HND Graphic Design students.

Laura commented, “I am delighted to have won. The chance to work on a project with such a commercially viable market really inspired the class. It also gave me an opportunity to learn a little more about the Scottish Parliament and the work Wendy does in Edinburgh.”

Laura works for the Medical Illustration Department at Wishaw General Hospital while Paula works for the Greater Glasgow Health Board. Paula said, “I like the interaction within the class, I find it helps to see other students' ideas and hear the logic behind them, I think it is good to be included in the same class as the full-time students.”
