Head teacher Michael Canning with senior pupils
"It is a wonderful opportunity to develop a whole-school ethos that balances education with community values. We all hope this school will allow staff and pupils the opportunity to flourish, and a chance to feel a deep sense of pride in their achievements".

Michael Canning, head teacher

Formed by the merger of St Brendan's high school in Linwood and St Cuthbert's high school in Johnstone, the new St Benedict's high school has been built to accommodate 850 pupils, with 22 classrooms, 26 practical rooms, a games hall, a gymnasium and a fitness suite.

A major feature of the new school is the massive social and dining area for pupils, designed to encourage them to stay in school at lunchtimes and enjoy healthy school meals. This new area also features a permanent stage with gantry lighting that can that be used for pupil assemblies and performances. The stage is linked to a new recording room and music practice room, providing talented pupils with the best facilities possible.

"The opening of St Benedict's has given the pupils a fantastic opportunity to meet and make friends from outside their local communities. It's a real plus for the communities of Linwood and Johnstone."
