Provost Lawson visited Renfrewshire Carers' Centre in Paisley's Silk Street to hand over a cheque for the total raised at Renfrewshire Council's first ever St Andrew's charity ball.
The young carers project based at the centre supports 120 young people aged between eight and 18, who act as carers for their parents, brothers and sisters.
More than 300 people attended the charity ball held at the Normandy Hotel in Renfrew on 16 November last year to raise funds for the project.
Provost Lawson said: "I am delighted to present this amount to such a deserving local charity. These young people give up their personal time, often missing out on things most young people take for granted, to care for their loved ones. They are an inspiration to us all."
"I hope to see the success of the first St Andrew's ball growing in the years ahead so we can continue to support important local charities such as this."
Christine Melville, project line manager for Renfrewshire Young Carers, said: "It is wonderful for the young carers to receive this funding boost. One of the main supports we provide is time out and the chance to be children away from their responsibilities at home."
"The centre gives them a place to meet and talk to other young people in similar situations so they don't feel so isolated. The money will be used to keep this going."
