Provost Lawson with Duncan Paisley, chief of the Paisley family worldwide
Renfrewshire's Provost will join thousands of people at The Gathering 2009 in Edinburgh where she will represent Paisley.

Provost Celia Lawson will take part in the event which is being held as part of the national Homecoming Scotland 2009 celebrations, on 25-26 July in Edinburgh.

Over the weekend, the event will include the largest ever Highland Games in Scotland and a grand clan parade.

Provost Lawson will join the parade, from the Royal Palace of Holyrood along the Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle, as part of the Paisley Clan.

Provost Lawson said: "I am very much looking forward to taking part in this historic event. The Gathering is the key event of the Homecoming year and will bring together Scots from across the globe. I will be marching as part of the Paisley clan and am looking forward to joining other Paisley residents, past and present, for this special occasion."

The Paisley Family International Gathering (23 – 27 July) is being organised by the Paisley Family Society. As part of this, Renfrewshire Council is hosting a visit to Paisley Abbey and historical tour of the town on Monday 27 July.

The Much Hon. Duncan Paisley of Westerlea, Chief of the Paisley family worldwide, will be hosting many of the events.

Westerlea said: "This event is unique in nature and style and is on an unprecedented scale in Scotland. There will be 8,000 people from 128 clans taking part in the march. We would like to see as many people from Paisley or with the name or blood of Paisley join us for the family events."
