Renfrewshire Council has received an overwhelming vote of confidence from its tenants. The results of the 2007 tenants' satisfaction survey show 81% are either satisfied or very satisfied with the council as a landlord.

Just over 1,300 tenants took part in the phone survey. This represents around one in 10 of the council's tenants and is a statistically valid sample.

The survey also found:

The council's repairs service scored particularly highly with tenants, giving the speed of repairs, attitude of workers, quality of repairs and respect for their homes an average 90% approval rating.

Tenants used the survey to highlight the issues that concerned them and to tell the council which service areas should be the top priority.

Dog fouling, graffiti, vandalism and litter were the biggest problems tenants identified in their neighbourhoods. Repairs and maintenance, the quality of homes, keeping tenants informed and tackling antisocial behaviour were the clear priorities for tenants.

Councillor Brian Lawson, convener of Renfrewshire Council's housing and community safety policy board, said: "Our tenants are the people who are best placed to tell us what works and what doesn't work. I'm very pleased with the vote of confidence the council has been given as a landlord."

"Talking to our tenants and getting their views is extremely important for us. We invest a lot in getting tenants involved through, for example, neighbourhood forums and estate management agreements. Nearly £50,000 was also spent in 2007/2008 on supporting registered tenants' organisations."
