Elderly and vulnerable to benefit from training success

The care for elderly and vulnerable people in Renfrewshire just got better as another 100 front-line, Renfrewshire Council care workers have secured a range of educational achievements, including Return to Learn, Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs at levels 2, 3 and 4) and SVQ Assessor's awards.
The successful employees are all full or part-time, front line workers who deliver care services directly to clients in residential and day care centres and through the council's home care service.
Councillor McCartin said: "Renfrewshire Council is committed to developing all our employees. It's great to see so many people improving their skills and growing within their jobs. All the employees who are receiving awards work directly with clients so our drive towards a fully-qualified workforce pays real dividends for some of the most vulnerable members of our community."
The last 12 months has seen Renfrewshire Council employees being closely involved in the development of qualifications specifically for the caring environment, including a SVQ Level 3 award in Children's Care, Learning and Development. This qualification is being offered to foster carers working within the council. A pilot group started the course in April 2007 and will be finished by the summer.
