This is another major step in getting construction work started on the new multi-purpose facility for health and social work sited on Ferry Road in Renfrew.
The new centre will provide modern, fit-for-purpose facilities for local people needing to access health or social work services. This will include GP services, dental services, physiotherapy, podiatry (foot care), community nursing and social work services.
A joint development with Renfrewshire Council, the new centre is expected to be complete by late 2009.
David Leese, director of Renfrewshire Community Health Partnership, said: "The approval of the full business case is a major step towards the building of a new health and social work centre for the people of Renfrew."
"Bringing health and social work services together under one roof will make it easier and quicker for local people to access the services they require. It will also provide facilities that are fit for the 21st century and significantly improve working conditions for frontline staff."
Renfrewshire Council leader Derek Mackay said: "This is a milestone in taking forward a joint health and social work facility in Renfrew. The site is already being cleared to allow for construction and I know from speaking to people in the town that they are looking forward to this innovative facility coming to Renfrew.
"Partnership working is increasingly essential in tackling a range of personal, health and social issues and this flagship programme will bring real benefits for the people of Renfrewshire."
The full business case will now be considered for final approval at the next meeting of the Scottish Government capital investment group in late February 2008.
