Award winners with Provost Lawson and David Tanner
Renfrewshire's unsung heroes have been recognised at a glittering ceremony for the tenth annual Provost's Community Awards.

Caring and courageous men and women from all walks of life took home awards from the event held in the Normandy Hotel in Renfrew on Friday 28 March 2008.

The awards celebrate those people in our community who have made special achievements and gone out of their way to make a difference to the lives of others.

Each of the nominees, their families and the people who nominated them were invited to the special ceremony. Guests gathered to hear the moving stories of each of the 14 nominees, put forward by members of the public, in a specially-commissioned short film shown on the night.

The host for the evening, Renfrewshire's Provost Celia Lawson, along with compere for the night, Sky Sports News presenter David Tanner, then presented each winner with their award and prize.

Provost Lawson said: "It was a very special night for everyone involved, not just for the winners. For me, it has been a privilege to host this event and pay tribute to those people who have overcome personal difficulties or made a contribution to our communities. Choosing the winners was not an easy task."

"I would also like to thank all of our generous sponsors who have supported this event and helped give everyone a night to remember."

A total of 14 nominees were shortlisted over the five categories.

The winners were as follows: Each of the winners received a trophy to keep for one year, a donation of £500 for a charity or charities of their choice, £200 spending money and a return flight for two people with two nights accommodation in a four-star hotel in London.
