£66,000 makeover for Johnstone library

Johnstone Library in Houston Square is getting a £66,000 makeover. The library closes for its five week facelift on Monday 28 January and reopens on Wednesday 5 March.

Renfrewshire’s second busiest library will receive new shelving, furniture, carpets, and lighting along with a modern reception counter. It will also be redecorated.

A range of measures are being put in place to cater for the 159,000 people who visit the library annually. These include a mobile library service from Monday 28 January. It will be available from:

• 10am to 7.30pm on Mondays and Thursdays; and
• 10am to 4.30pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Borrowers can also use any other Renfrewshire library to borrow, return or renew items, get information and book internet sessions. Items can also be renewed or reserved online using a password supplied by library staff.

Councillor Eileen McCartin, convener of Renfrewshire Council's community and family care policy board, said: "We're sorry for any disruption that this may cause library users and we look forward to welcoming our customers back to our new look library."
