Renfrewshire councillors have agreed to decant Johnstone High School pupils to the former St Cuthbert's High School while Johnstone High School undergoes the second phase of its refurbishment this year.
The proposals to transfer the pupils for the 2008-2009 school year and part of 2009-2010 were given the green light at a meeting of Renfrewshire Council's education policy board on Thursday 17 January 2008.
A consultation on the proposed decant showed three quarters of parents and staff support the proposed move. The refurbishment will now begin in July 2008, a year earlier than originally planned.
Councillor Lorraine Cameron, convener of Renfrewshire Council's education policy board, said: "A meeting with parents was held in December and meetings with staff were held between October and December outlining the two options of decanting to St Cuthbert's or having the work carried out with pupils and staff still on site."
"In addition, a ballot paper was sent to every family with children who will be attending Johnstone High School in the sessions 2008-2009 and 2009-2010. We have taken all of the views presented into careful consideration and three quarters of parents who responded are in favour of the move."
"The first phase of refurbishment saw the new games hall being built in 2006 and this next stage will see more widespread improvements to the school including redecorating classrooms and corridors, new carpets as well as upgraded windows, heating and security measures."
