Renfrewshire Council Leader Derek Mackay has hailed the creation of 700 new jobs at the Hewlett Packard site in Erskine as a 'vote of confidence' in Renfrewshire's future.
The multi-million pound investment will establish HP's Erskine facility as a hub for delivering IT services to UK clients.
Workers at the Erskine site will focus on supply chain, telephone and web sales, marketing and customer support.
"An investment and jobs boost on this scale would be welcome at any time," said Renfrewshire Council Leader Derek Mackay.
"That a world-leading company should expand its Renfrewshire operation at this time and to this extent is a huge vote of confidence in Renfrewshire's future.
"Our workforce, transport links, environment and business infrastructure have again proved that they are capable of attracting and sustaining economic growth in the technology and customer service sectors – some of the most competitive in the global economy."
Councillor Iain Nicolson, convener of Renfrewshire Council's Planning and Economic Development Policy Board, said: "Last year I spoke with employees and management at the Erskine site at a time when hundreds of manufacturing jobs were being relocated from there.
"I said then that I was hopeful that further diversification and development could again lead to growth at the Erskine facility.
"It is very encouraging that a company which could have chosen anywhere in the world for this development has chosen to build on the tradition of excellence at its existing Renfrewshire base."
