Council officials help clean up Ferguslie Park
Members of Renfrewshire's Council's corporate management team braved the elements to show their support for the Clean Renfrewshire campaign, demonstrating to the wider public that they want their environment to be free from litter.

In support of Renfrewshire Council's Clean Renfrewshire campaign, over 20 people rolled up their sleeves to tackle litter in Ferguslie Park on Thursday (August 14) evening.

Armed with litter pickers and black bags, Council chief executive David Martin and directors from the six council directorates teamed up with representatives from their community planning partners, including police and fire and health services to tackle litter hot spots in Ferguslie Park. They were also accompanied by members of the street scene staff who helped to carry out the clean up.

Inspired by the many local volunteers who have stepped forward in support of Clean Renfrewshire since it launched in May, their efforts demonstrated to the wider community their commitment and determination to ensure the support for Clean Renfrewshire continues.

Despite the wet weather, the clean up was a great success and there was a good positive response from those who participated. It provided the corporate management team the chance to come together within a different environment and give something back to the local community. It is hoped that the clean up will generate further support towards Clean Renfrewshire, encouraging more and more volunteers to get on board to support the campaign.

Council chief executive David Martin said: "The clean up organised by the corporate management team was a tremendous success and I want to take this opportunity to thank those who participated."

"Clean Renfrewshire is significantly raising our awareness about our need to maintain a clean community and it is important that we all throw our weight behind the campaign. To ensure that the momentum of the campaign keeps moving forward, we must work together to do our bit. It is also important we realise that we all have a responsibility to ensure Renfrewshire is a clean and tidy place to live in, to work in and to visit. I hope that our efforts will encourage more local volunteers to carry out more local clean ups within their community."

Cllr Marie McGurk, convener of Renfrewshire Council's environment and infrastructure policy board, said: "The involvement shown by everyone on Thursday evening has demonstrated that everyone at all levels within Renfrewshire Council is fully behind Clean Renfrewshire."

"I am delighted by the enthusiasm and the hard work shown by members of the corporate management team who have got on board to support Clean Renfrewshire. Their active involvement in the clean up of Ferguslie Park demonstrates our commitment to make a noticeable difference and successfully tackle the litter problem in Renfrewshire."

Clean Renfrewshire can assist anyone who wants to organise or take part in a clean up by calling the hotline number on 0141 842 4448. Details of other clean up events can also be found in our street care and cleaning section.
