Visitors will now be invited to take part in guided tours of the Observatory, run throughout the day, to discover more about the fascinating history and view the astronomical displays of one of the most intriguing buildings in Paisley. Renfrewshire Council's arts and museums service, which manages the Paisley Museum complex, is training up a team of visitor assistants to deliver these guided tours which will be free of charge.
To manage the tours and ensure that all visitors receive the best possible visitor experience, taking in the museum, art galleries and the Observatory, access to the Observatory will be via the main museum building.
The new access takes effect from Tuesday 30 June. Signage at the previous Oakshaw Street entrance will direct visitors to the main entrance on Paisley's High Street.
Access to the observatory for the popular night sky viewings during the winter months will continue to be from the Oakshaw Street entrance.
Coats Observatory is one of only four public observatories in Scotland and attracts thousands of visitors a year. It is a particular favourite with school groups.
The observatory regularly runs evening viewing nights throughout the winter and solar viewing sessions during the summer months.
