The seven girls, aged between 12 and 18, set off on Friday 18 April to represent Scotland at The World's Cheerleading Competition in Florida, USA.
The girls, who are all members of the Renfrewshire Cheerleaders squad, have been selected to compete in the international competition on Saturday 26 April, as part of Team Scotland.
They have been attending classes in Moorcroft and Erskine Sports Centre for the last four years and, under the leadership of coach Roz Hart, have won a number of trophies at national events over the last few years.
The girls auditioned for Team Scotland in September 2007 and will be travelling to Florida with team mates from across the country.
Council leader Derek Mackay and Councillor Lorraine Cameron, convener of Renfrewshire Council's education policy board, invited the girls to Renfrewshire House, Renfrewshire Council's headquarters, to wish them good luck before leaving for their trip on Friday.
Councillor Mackay said: "I wish the girls the best of luck, and I hope they bring back a few medals for Scotland and for Renfrewshire. We'll all be cheering them on."
Councillor Cameron said: "Cheerleading is just one example of the wide variety of sports available to young people in Renfrewshire, and we are all very proud that the girls have been chosen to represent Scotland at such a big international event."
The girls are: Caitlin Symington (13), Rachel Millar (14), Anna Morrison (13) and Katrina Crossan (12), all of Trinity High School; Louise Barr (14) of St Andrew's Academy; Amy Johnston (13) of Park Mains High; and Jennifer McGinlay (18).
Coach Roz Hart said: "Cheerleading is now recognised as a popular way of keeping fit and is an increasingly up and coming sport. The girls are very excited about their trip and hope to do well in the competition."
