Renfrewshire Council is replacing the existing charge for collecting bulky rubbish and white goods with a new sliding scale.
White goods include items like fridges, washing machines, cookers and micro-waves. The new charges come into force on Wednesday 1 July.
Councillor Marie McGurk, convener of Renfrewshire Council's Environment and Infrastructure Policy Board, said: "We have been increasingly aware that while some people put out one or two items for uplift, others put out a small mountain of rubbish. But they both pay the same amount. The new charges are based on how many items people put out and are a fairer reflection of what these collections cost."
The current charge for a bulk collection is £16.15. Under the new sliding scale, the charge will be £18.40 for up to 10 items and £25 for 11 to 20 items. There is a separate charge of £18.40 for individual white goods.
Cllr McGurk continued: "Under the European Union's Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive, people who sell white goods should offer some form of scheme to take back old items when someone buys a new one. There is a charge for some of these schemes but some are free. It's always worth consumers asking about take back schemes when purchasing new white goods."
