Work is expected to start within the next two months on the project which will see around 100 new bathrooms being fitted by April 2009.
Councillor Brian Lawson, convener of Renfrewshire Council's housing and community safety policy board, said: "Our homes feature a wide range of bathroom layouts. The pilot project will cover as many different types as possible to help us plan a bigger replacement programme as part of our drive to meet the Scottish Housing Quality Standard (SHQS)."
"We'll soon be starting a consultation exercise to tap into our tenants' views on what they think our investment priorities should be to meet the SHQS. This, in turn, will help to guide our wider strategy for investing in Renfrewshire’s council homes."
The SHQS was launched in March 2003. It aims to make sure all council and housing association homes measure up to a minimum set of standards which are considered necessary in a decent home. The Standard is based on a number of broad quality criteria. To meet the Standard a home must:
- meet the existing tolerable standard
- be free from serious disrepair
- be energy efficient
- provide modern facilities and services, and
- be healthy, safe and secure
