New guidebook on cycle routes
Home > Services > Council and government > Council information, performance and statistics > News - release archive
The routes include panoramic views of the Clyde, the back roads beyond Bridge of Weir, the hills around Howwood and a route along the rivers Cart and Clyde to Braehead.
Each route is accompanied by maps, photography and information on the history of the area and interesting places to visit. There's also general guidance on appropriate clothing to wear, the type of bike which would best suit each route and information sources covering the major attractions in each locality.
Renfrewshire councillors joined cyclists and youngsters from Lochwinnoch primary at the launch of the cycling booklet at Castle Semple Centre, near Lochwinnoch.
Derek Mullins, Scottish volunteer ranger co-ordinator for Sustrans, said: "Sustrans welcomes the publication of this booklet which highlights some excellent off-road and minor cycling routes in Renfrewshire. The timing of the publication is excellent since the Paisley to Lochwinnoch cycle route, Sustrans' first cycle path in Scotland, was officially opened twenty years ago this summer. This booklet should encourage more people to use their bikes to explore Renfrewshire's beautiful countryside."
The booklet is the second in the 'Out There' series which have been published by the council's planning and transport department. The first booklet was published last year and described ten countryside walks around Renfrewshire.
