Among the successes of Renfrewshire's approach to tackling poverty has been the boost to debt advice and financial inclusion services by Renfrewshire Council. Last year, the council invested over £214,000 in additional money advice services to several council and voluntary sector services.
Latest figures reveal that between 2006 and 2009 Renfrewshire’s financial inclusion services helped people gain £21.5m in money and benefits that they were entitled to. Over £47m of individual debt was brought into debt management programmes.
The Renfrewshire Workforce Plus Programme launched in June 2008 has helped 3202 people in Renfrewshire through supporting employment and training for those with problems such as disabilities or long-term unemployment.
