Kirklandneuk Primary youngsters enjoyed their first lessons in their redesigned and refurbished school when they went back
to class after the Christmas break.
The school was decanted to the former Moorpark Primary building in October 2010 to allow the work to be carried out and the children are now happily settling back into their newly upgraded surroundings.
The refurbishment took place as part of an overall £20m investment by Renfrewshire Council in Renfrew's education establishments.
The old Moorpark Primary building will now be demolished, with the St James' Campus – featuring a new St James' Primary School, community facilities and a nursery – to be built in its place.
The modernisation of Kirklandneuk Primary School saw the building extended and the school completely redesigned, with features including a new dining room, changing facilities, an administration corridor, and a parent-run library.
Shirley Weiland, head teacher of Kirklandneuk Primary, said: "We are absolutely thrilled with the upgraded school and that is reflected in the feedback from pupils and parents.
"Everybody loves the facilities and they have really exceeded our expectations. It is a lovely environment for the children to learn in.
"It is a complete transformation from the old Ard Road site. Everyone involved in the project has done a marvellous job."
Renfrewshire Council Leader Brian Lawson who was given a guided tour of the new building, said: "I was really impressed with the quality of the facilities.
"With new IT technology throughout the school, and smart boards and white boards in every classroom, the children of Kirklandneuk will learn in a modern environment which will equip them well for the future.
"The reopening of Kirklandneuk Primary is another example of how the council's Building Better Communities programme is progressing.
"The people of Renfrewshire are now seeing our £103m investment in schools and community and leisure facilities take shape in their communities."
January is a notable month for Renfrew as the 28th sees the reopening of the revamped Renfrew Town Hall, alongside a new Renfrew Community Museum, after a £5.2m refurbishment and extension.
