Throughcare - Supported Lodgings project is a service that was set up to care for young people who are, or were, looked after by the Council because of their family circumstances. The service is normally provided by people in the young person's own community who are willing to:
- offer the young person a room in their own home; and
- provide support.
Passing on basic practical skills such as cooking, budgeting and running a home is as valuable to the young person as encouraging them to lead an active social life and being there for them when they just need someone to talk to. You can give the young person the confidence and security they need for an independent future.
In return, people who offer young people a place in their home will always have a support worker who will be involved from they start. The support worker is there if you need to talk about any problems you may be experiencing with supporting the young person. The young person will have the continued support of their own throughcare worker, so you will never feel alone.
You will receive an allowance for providing a young person with supported lodgings. We realise that a lot of people worry about money, so we will help you with any problems you may have to make sure no-one loses out financially.
