One of the best ways of countering stigma and encouraging people to be more open about mental health in general is through information. This page describes the wide range of services offered by the council and its partners to help people suffering from mental health problems.

There are many organisations which provide information, advice and support in relation to mental health problems. Some are listed below and you can find many more using the websites listed.

Local organisations

RAMH is a voluntary organisation whose vision is to deliver services to individuals and their families in their local community, to enable recovery from mental ill health and promote well being. They currently operate a number of projects dealing with a range of issues such as housing, education, employability and benefit advice as well as a wide range of support and intervention services. They offer support 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Acumen is a support network that enables mental health service users and carers to participate as equal partners in the development of services and the promotion of well being and recovery.
Choose Life provides advice, information guidance and training to staff, carers and the community to help them support those who are suicidal and/or self harming.

National organisations HandsOnScotland is an on-line resource for anybody working with or caring for children and young people. The website provides practical information and techniques on how to respond helpfully to children and young people's troubling behaviour and offers advice and activities on how to help them flourish. For more information please visit the HandsOnScotland website. The website was commissioned by the Scottish Government through Heads up Scotland and was developed by Playfield Institute (NHS Fife) in partnership with Barnardo's and the University of Dundee.

One in four Scots will experience a mental health problem at some point in their lives and we offer a range of services to support people through this.
