Group of home care workers
Home care services are part of a range of caring and support services provided by social work.

The aim of home care is to help vulnerable people of all ages to live independently and securely in their own homes by providing personal and domestic care services.

Home care services can provide practical help for people who have difficulty: Home care services are provided greatly on each individual’s own circumstances and needs. You will be visited by a member of staff, at home, to discuss your needs and those of your carer. This is called an 'assessment'.

Services available to you may include: These services may be provided by social work or by an independent organisation. In either case, you will be told of the level of service to be provided.

The member of staff may also suggest, as part of a care plan, other services that can be of help such as lunch clubs or volunteer schemes.

To get help from home care services you can contact a member of staff who will be able to help you (see contact details below). Also, anyone such as a friend, relative, doctor or other concerned person can, with your agreement, contact social work on your behalf. If you are in hospital there are social workers that you can approach for help.

Please give as much information as possible. Insufficient information may delay access to a service.

Home care services may be charged for depending on the income of the person receiving the service. A charge is applied after benefit entitlements have been checked and claimed. The cost of the service is subsidised by Renfrewshire council. For everyone over 65 years, personal care is free.

The British Red Cross also provide extra support and care at home following a short stay in hospital. Check their website on how to apply for this.
