Domestic violence is never acceptable. Are you abused? You may be if your partner:
- puts you down
- demands obedience
- becomes surly and angry if you tell him he's drinking too much
- makes you perform sex acts that you don't like or enjoy
- becomes upset if dinner, laundry or housework isn't done
- is jealous and suspicious of your friends
- tells you that you are ugly and unattractive
- tells you that you couldn't manage to take care of yourself without him
- acts like you are his personal servant
- insults or embarrasses you in front of other people
- becomes very angry when you disagree with his point of view
- threatens you with a weapon
- doesn't give you enough money to run your home
- says you're stupid
- demands that you stay at home to take care of the children
- feels that you should not work or study
- isn't kind to you
- doesn't want you to socialise with female friends
- demands sex whether you want it or not
- screams and yells at you
- slaps you around the head
- assaults you when he drinks
- orders you around
- is like Jekyll and Hyde - nice to others but not to you
- has no respect for your feelings
- frightens you
- treats you as though you are stupid
- acts like he would kill you
- punches you with his fists
- beats you so badly that you need medical help
